Spring has Sprung....grounded shmounded I want to do it all!

Yup! That's me the fresh warm air is here and I just want to be like a butterfly flitting here and there wanting to do all of the activities that I have been daydreaming about since the last snowflake fell. However, now that the fantastic period of good weather is here before the bugs and humidity take over in Virginia my mind just races and races; not allowing me to enjoy being in the moment of all my fun activities.

So here are a few tips to get and keep you grounded while you're enjoying Spring, some may be obvious and some may be new to you. In either instance they are sure fire ways to keep you in the present moment. First, play in the dirt! By that I mean, plant flowers, pull weeds, clean up the border around your walkway. No matter if you are pulling or planting getting your hands in the dirt sends all that extra energy to the earth to be absorbed. Next, hug a tree, kind of like getting dirt under your fingernails hugging a tree will give you a moment to breathe, focus and send the extra energy into the earth. If you don't feel comfortable standing in your work parking lot hugging it out then just leaning against the tree you've been staring at from your office window will do. Another way to get grounded is to go for a walk in nature WITHOUT your phone! That's right I said it, leave it in the car and better yet, bring your dog with you if you have one. You can both use the fresh air and exercise. By taking a walk unplugged you will notice the smells, grass, trees and maybe other critters in nature....feeling more connected to the earth instead of Facebook.

These simple but profound ways of getting grounded really help me to stay focused the rest of the day. Once you develop a routine that includes these activities you'll begin the notice more when you aren't grounded and actually crave your time in nature.

So get out there and enjoy!
